Endevenous Laser Therapy
How Does Endevenous Laser Therapy Work?
Before the treatment of painful and swollen varicose veins require a surgical intervention (“stripping”) in which the affected vein is completely removed from the leg. Recently, intravenous laser therapy has been developed to treat chronic venous insufficiency by administering laser energy through a small incision in the leg to close the diseased vein.
With endovenous laser therapy, no surgery is required and the entire procedure can be performed in less than an hour in the doctor’s office. During the procedure, you will be awake and only your leg will be anesthetized. A fine laser fiber is inserted into the internal saphenous vein in the thigh. The doctor then administers laser energy through the fiber into the vein, which will cause the vein to occlude.
